Why a Sunrise Proposal at the Eiffel Tower Is Pure Magic
From the moment that Ryan and I arrived at Champ de Mars in front of the Eiffel Tower that morning, I knew this proposal would be beautiful. There’s something ethereal about a sunrise proposal in front of the Eiffel Tower: the city is still quiet, the light is soft and forgiving, and the moment feels as if it’s yours and yours alone. If you have been to Paris you know that at sunrise there is a special kind of magic because not many people are out and about.

Setting the Stage: The Plan, the Surprise, the Execution
1. Scouting the Viewpoint
Working with Ty on planning this proposal to Ashlee we chose to plan to meet at Champ de Mars. This spot is casual, iconic and offers a classic, unobstructed silhouette of the Eiffel Tower. This can be a popular spot, so I would say to arrive early to claim your spot and let the moment feel more intimate.
2. Timing & Light
The proposal was timed just as the sky turned pastel — that brief moment when the light kisses the iron lattice of the Eiffel Tower and bathes everything in gentle warmth. Because the city was still waking, there were hardly any tourists around, giving us a quiet canvas for something deeply personal.
3. The Hidden Photographer
For this proposal I did not have to blend in as it was apart of the plan to all meet up to take photos together. Ashlee was not surprised to see my husband and I which made this portion easy! I’d visited the spot earlier to plan angles, understand sightlines, and choose where they should stand. This kind of positioning is something experienced proposal photographers often do to avoid awkward shadows or unwanted bystanders.
4. The Big Moment
Ty wrote her a letter before he got down on one knee. Reading the letter was such a sweet moment between the two of them. Ashlee wiping his tears from his cheeks, it really felt like a scene from a movie!
5. The Afterglow
Immediately after she said yes, we walked (and sometimes skipped) around Champ de Mars, capturing portraits in the sunrise light, candid laughter, and quiet kisses. We followed the proposal with a celebratory breakfast nearby before we split up for the morning!
Tips for Couples Planning Their Own Eiffel Tower Sunrise Proposal
| Tip | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Arrive early | Beat the crowds, set yourself in place, and have those first golden minutes to yourselves. |
| Scout in advance | Visit the spot beforehand, understand lighting, angles, and backdrops. |
| Keep the ring hidden & discreet | Use decoy items, false pockets, or creative concealment so the surprise isn’t spoiled. |
| Work with a photographer | They know Paris light, crowd patterns, and how to seamlessly blend in. |
| Plan for post-proposal portraits | Let the moment breathe — don’t rush to the next location before capturing the emotion. |
| Stay flexible & calm | Weather, timing, or small glitches may happen — stay present to enjoy your moment. |

Final Thoughts
Shooting a sunrise proposal in front of the Eiffel Tower isn’t just about getting a beautiful image. It’s about capturing vulnerability, joy, and the beginning of a new chapter. When I look back on these images, I don’t see just a tower, I see two hearts daring to dream, in one of the most romantic cities in the world.
